Every school in Waukegan Community Unit School District #60 was recently recognized by the Midwest Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Network for implementation efforts during the 2025-26 school year.

PBIS is a multi-tiered framework that helps schools promote positive student behavior and social-emotional growth. It works by teaching behavior expectations just like any other subject and by responding to behavior in a structured, supportive way.

Waukegan schools were among more than 140 schools statewide recognized for PBIS implementation by Midwest PBIS, which annually honors schools for their implementation efforts. Participation in the recognition process reflects each school’s commitment to implementing PBIS with fidelity, including completion of the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI), a key self-assessment used to guide continuous improvement and inform statewide and national PBIS efforts.

The majority of Waukegan schools earned both the Storytelling and Action Planning badges, recognizing efforts to share their PBIS journey and use data to guide continuous improvement. The Storytelling badge recognizes a school’s efforts to communicate its work to improve school culture, climate, and student, family, and staff outcomes. The Action Planning badge recognizes schools for using data and reflection to drive future planning and implementation.

In addition to the overall recognition, the following schools earned both the Storytelling and Action Planning badges: Andrew Cooke Magnet Elementary School, Carman-Buckner Elementary School, Clearview Elementary School, Early Learning Center, Glen Flora Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School, Greenwood Elementary School, HR McCall Elementary School, Hyde Park Elementary School, John R Lewis Middle School, John S Clark Elementary School, Little Fort Elementary School, Lyon Magnet Elementary School, Miguel Juarez Middle School, North Elementary School, Oakdale Elementary School, Robert E Abbott Middle School, Washington Elementary School, Waukegan High School – Washington Campus, Waukegan High School – Brookside Campus, and Whittier Elementary School.
